An Intact Body
From Camarilla Wiki
The dark shape padded lightly across the rooftop. Below it, the smell of alcohol and the sounds of revelry drifted up through the air. Three distinct scents, all laced through with far too much booze.
There weren't many bars near this particular building. They had been moving by car, though with very impaired skill. Deflated tires had forced them to abandon their car a block down the street. Unfortunately for them, they had chosen the wrong path to continue on.
The wolf paused and considered his timing. He waited until the appropriate moment and nonchanlantly nosed a loose brick off the rooftop. A string of garbled curses floated up on the crisp night air as it crashed to the ground just a foot or so ahead of the group.
That was the first warning. Soon they'd come to the Warding and, if any amount of intelligence survived through the alcohol bath they had given their brains, they would turn back and exit the alley. There were things here tonight no human should see; things too numerous for the pack to defeat alone. Things which should not have a chance of procuring an intact human body. The risk was too great. A Warding had been placed and now the pack was waiting for reinforcements. Though, calling for reinforcements both raised their chances of success and lowered their chances of keeping this place as theirs. There were simply too many of them to fight, not for any pack.
Finally, the humans reached the Ward on unsteady feet. The males were hesitant, but the female saw this as a challenge; something by which they could prove their bravery to her, and she cajoled and encouraged them to continue. The males did so, reluctantly; neither wanting to give up his chance of mating with the female by admitting the other was braver.
Typical.
Typical human pettiness. Typical human short-sightedness. Typical human obsession with sex. Tonight, though; Tonight it would lead to a very atypical death.
The dark furred wolf raced along the rooftop towards the next alleyway. He lept down and landed in front of the party even as he shifted up. The wolf the humans saw was a massive reminder of the primal world; a thing of fear and terror.
One of the males fell as he tried to back away. He continued to scoot up across the pavement. The girl stared at him; her mouth a comical "O"; and her eyes filling madness. The second male had already turned and was running out of the alley.
Behind him, the wolf heard the scrabbling sound of spiders. There was no time! No time to howl and call his pack. No time for a complex solution. No time. The spiders could not be allowed to acquire an intact human body.
He leapt at the girl and ripped her throat before she could scream. Gurggling, she fell under the massive weight of the wolf. His rear claws shredded her abdomen, as he leapt off, he could feel her hip bone detach from her spine. The spiders could not be allowed to acquire an intact human body.
The male who had fallen was scrambling away now; his body viciously purging alcohol in a desperate attempt to clear his head. Unfortunately, vomit also reduced his traction. The wolf pounced on him and closed its jaws around his back. This one managed a high-pitched and desperate scream before the jaws crushed him. A few quick jerks of the head snapped the spine and the force ripped the pieces apart.
The last human was running, shakily, towards the entrance of the alley. The wolf speed after him; the human almost made it out.
The wolf went low as he caught up and snagged a leg between his teeth. He turned his head and used the human's own velocity to throw him into the brick wall. Dazed, he could do no more than feebly hold up his hands to try and ward off the nightmare beast in front of him.
It was not enough.
The teeth flashed in and sank deep. They gripped the spine while the rear claws dug into the abdomen. The wolf then stretched and shredded the human into unusable pieces. The spiders could not be allowed to acquire an intact human body.
The wolf raised its head. He could hear the scrabbling of spiders in the alleyway. He turned quickly and shifted into the proud and powerful war-form. The pounding of his blood and the primal need to kill filled him, as he turned to face the noise. The swarming horde of spiders covered the ground and flowed towards him like a tide of death. As he howled to summon his pack, he could feel the barely suppressed rage inside building to the intensity of a furnace.
Good.
He was going to need it. The spiders could not be allowed to acquire an intact human body. And if he fell, they might be able to do just that. The rage would help. He had two possible outcomes now. Fight the spiders until he destroyed them with some timely assistance from his pack and Luna size dose of sheer luck. Or, fight them long enough that, if he fell, they couldn't carry his body away before his pack arrived from their sentry posts. To do one iota less was unthinkable, and unacceptable.
The spiders could not be allowed to acquire an intact human body.
