 Through the Hedge The Rolling Storms: Orlando's FreeholdAround 1950, the Lost disappeared from the Orlando area. The reason for this is shrouded in mystery, but centers around an enigmatic figure, rumored to be a True Fae, known as the Cowboy. Leaving prophetic messages of doom and woe, the Orlando area had been left, according to the Cowboy’s wishes, empty and derelict. But, as they say, times and convergences have power, and at the stroke of midnight on January 1st, 2000, the hedge paths inside Orlando burst to life with the vibrancy of Glamour again; flooding out into the city and attracting the attention of changelings from all across Florida. As a result, old places of power where the Courts gathered prior to 1950 re-awoke, calling out through their seasonal ties to the courtiers of their lands. As the power surged, the walls between the hedge and the real weakened, allowing for both humans and animals to accidentally cross over into the hedge… and for other beings to find their way here. Whether or not spring renewed life or someone cleared the undergrowth was unclear. The House of Cards was founded, building on the seasonal links to the old meanings of heart and spade and club and diamond. With a ruling monarch and council of Aces to advise the courts, the House stood for a number of years. However, houses of cards tend toward one thing and one thing only - collapse. Suspicion internally and threats from the loyalist cowboy without, the house of cards fell under its own weight in the late summer of 2008. Left confused and endangered, the Lost of Orlando banded together to search their seasonal freeholds and in the process uncovered some of their own history. Building on the foundations of what had once been prior to the Cowboy's reign of terror fifty years earlier, the Lost of Orlando assigned individuals to watch over the various territories in the two counties the freehold claimed as their own. They established law and gave faith and took risk on a new set of monarchs, re-establishing and rebuilding their freehold oath. Named for the storms that frequent central Florida, The Freehold of Rolling Storms was a new, more unified beginning. The past year has seen a procession of stable monarchs from Edria Meredith in Autumn, to Falcon in Winter, to Toi Breaker in Spring, and to Kalen Blazenheart in Summer. While outside perils are still present and new mysteries have presented themselves within, the Lost of Rolling Storms at least stand together on their path. Whether or not their history is understood or whether their enemies are stronger than lightening and thunder, remains to be seen. Freehold StructureIn the past, the Freehold was led by the cycle, represented by suits of cards with positions represented accordingly. After much research done through members of the Freehold the four separate hollows combined and formed together to make the Rolling Storms, a single united Freehold. The King or Queen of each season is chosen by the Wyrd as the year turns; each Monarch chooses Duchy for the two separate counties and then each Duchy chooses Barons inside their domains and so on, swearing Oaths of protection and loyalty. There are other offices, such as the Parliament, made up of the former Monarchs of the three previous seasons who advise the current King or Queen during their reign. The Royal bard is also appointed, one who records the important events, and tells tale of truth among the Freehold (for good or for ill!). A Royal Forrester is also appointed, one who knows his or her way inside the Hedge well and patrols it as he or she sees fit. Current Leadership2010 Seasonal Monarchs
