Ryujin is the most powerful water dragon of tatsu (dragons in Amatsukami's lore), and as such is reconized by Amaterasu as their leader and the god of the sea. He controls its tides with a pair of gems. Technically controlling a dominion of Susano-o, they have shared it: He controls the water depths, while Susano-o is in charge of the shorelines, which are much more in contact with man. But that is not the only thing they share: both of them are short-tempered. If you go visiting him and do not stand higher than him in the kami hierarchy, you would better come with offerings and praise. Those who try to go on without it will soon find themselves ejected from the Overworld altogether, and only by the force of the dragon god.
In modern times, Ryujin has worn many forms: a lazy sea turtle, a giant dragon or a wild sea serpent are amongst the most often encountered. He can take on human form, but prefer to conceive his scions with women going too far at sea, be it by sailing, swimming or diving. When he does so, it usually is in his octopus or sea serpent form.
Ryujin's scions have an attirance for everything which is sensual and beautiful. They usually have a bad judgment, but maybe it is because it's not evaluated by mortals' standards. Many become artists or models for artists, inspired (or inspiring) by their knack for beauty. They often have either a inconditional love for the ocean, or a panic fear of it, maybe because of their divine father's temper.
Ryujin's rivals include Susano-o; Sobek, Aphrodite, Thor, Quetzalcoatl and Damballa.
Ryujin's favored abilities are Athletics, Brawl, Fortitude, Occult, Politics and Presence.
Ryujin's favored powers are Epic Dexterity, Epic Stamina, Epic Strength, Animal (Turtle), Moon, Water and Tsukumo-Gami.
