Chicago Mage History
The solidarity of the Chicago mages behind their Guardian Hierarch remains a very thinly maintained facade, as the other Orders chafe underneath Manipra’s yoke of control and plot how to seize control of Chicago for themselves. Still, the uneasy alliance remains for now as the Pentacle mages of Chicago find themselves surrounded by a sea of dangers – Seers, Banishers, Scelesti and even other, stranger denizens of the World of Darkness.
Despite this, or perhaps because of this, many young mages have found their way to the windy city to make a name for themselves through politics, ancient discoveries or sheer training in magical prowess. New cabals struggle to achieve prominence and repute while the city masters play them as pawns to search for treasures long lost, but never forgotten.
History of Chicago Mages
The Exodus
Manipra, Hierarch of the Chicago Consilium, opened the borders of Chicago to home for refugee mages from Aurora that fled from the magical Dead Zone swelling from the city and the rising tide of Seers. It was these factors that led the cabal “The King’s Men” to make an alliance with Chicago that allowed for all of the Auroran cabals to move there. The move was an awkward fit at first, with the newly arrived finding places around the more established cabals and native Chicagoans quickly, and a strange whisper of a ‘Celestial Flange’ being bandied about with no true substantiated knowledge of what this object might be. Mages of Chicago were then informed, in short notice, by the Hierarch of Chicago to cease all meddling with Werewolf affairs and politics, but could remain friends with them, if they so chose. Violations of this decree were to be punishable by immediate execution, despite many still walking the thin line on a daily basis.
The Abyssal Influences
It was announced that an Abyssal Manifestation has been brought into being and it's power considerably strong. Manipra wasted no time in declaring an open hunt for the creature, but with few clues, and it's last known whereabouts empty, the creature remains at large. What is known, is that the creatures eyes are black holes of darkness, and that it has a penchant for mental influences.
The Five
The Abyssal Manifestation was by no means the biggest danger unleashed on Chicago. In 2006, Riley "Dagda" McCormick of The Nameless, and solitaries Tyrone "Boko" Venus and Remy "Quixote" Montoya released the Nihili, five powerful mages, after accidentally stumbling onto an abandoned temple. While all three shared equal blame, it was Boko that touched the altar, aging thirty years and undoing the prison. The Nihili proceeded to take run of the city, threatening and killing many mages in their search for the Celestial Flange before laying low after some action on Walsh Industries behalf. No one knows for certain whether or not they will return, or how to stop them if and when they do.
The First Consilium of 2007
In a somewhat surprising announcement, Manipra stated that after ninety days he intended for each of the counselors to have a provost amongst the Pentacle mages who were in attendance, along with raising up many new sentinels, heralds and ostensibly other positions as well. This caused quite a shock to most mages already reeling with the questionable disbandment of one of the oldest cabals in Chicago, The Free Physicians and the announcement of two new ones -- Memento Mori and The New Utopian Front.
