The Mandates of The Earth
The Beast courts follow a different code of conduct from the various ones practiced by their western cousins. Called the Way of Emerald Virtue, this singular credo binds the court together allowing differing breeds to work in "harmony." Its First Mandate and Final Mandate are considered the most important. The mandates of this path are:
- Shirk not the tasks which have given you.
- Guard the wheel that it may turn in fullness.
- Presume not to instruct your cousin in his task.
- Honor your territory in all things.
- Let mercy guide you in our August Mother's court.
- Honor your ancestors and your elders.
- Honor the pacts with the spirit world.
- War not upon human or beast.
- Let no one violate the sacred places.
Renown
As a Hengeyokai commits great deed worthy of song and poem, he will gain renown in 3 categories.
- Glory for deeds that show martial prowess, nobility or simply those that garner reputation
- Virtue for deeds that are honorable and duitiful
- Wisdom for deed that demonstrating wit, acumen or sagacity
When enough renown is gained the Hengeyokai may advance in rank. The actual mechanism for this is never described in the books.
Rank
Like the Garou of the Western Concordiate the Beast Courts recognize 5 ranks (1-5), and 2 pseudo-ranks (0 & 6).
- Rank 0 - Stone - Those with no rank, Cub
- Rank 1 - Wood - Cliath
- Rank 2 - Iron - Fostern
- Rank 3 - Steel -Adren
- Rank 4 - Gold - Athro
- Rank 5 - Silver - Elder
- Rank 6 - Jade - Legend
Auspice
Auspice is more fluid within the Beast Courts, changing as the need arizes. Packs do not exist within the beast courts, though a rough equivalent called a Sentai does. There are two types of Sentai, a temporary or wave sentai, and a longer term or mountain sentai. While in a sentai a Hengeyokai gain rank per one of the 5 positions.
- Lantern - Similar to a Philodox
- Fist - similar to an Ahroun
- Mirror - similar to a Theurge
- Leaf - similar to a Ragabash
- Pillar - similar to a Galliard
While not in a Sentai all Hengeyokai gain rank as an auspice with no western parallel, called Courtier.
