History
Ivy had been a normal girl growing up. She had a loving family, friends and was good enough at school to pass with no real issues. She may have been lacking slightly in her physical abilities but she had been told often enough it was a phase she would grow out of. Still by the time she was fifteen nothing seemed to be changing she was still small and weak and her parents were getting worried. They took her to a doctor who assured them nothing was overly wrong with their little girl she was just a late bloomer that was all. Reassured they tried to let her live her own life without too many restrictions.
It's hard to say why she was taken, maybe the Fae saw her potential, maybe it was because of her name and the irony inherent there, or maybe she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. She had been coming home from a movie one night. It was late and she knew her parents would be worried so she took a short cut through the local park. She knew it was safe enough nothing had ever happened there, of course there had been the odd rumors but they were just stories. So what if they say that Renni Nickel had disappeared from those woods, knowing her parents, she probably just ran away.
She never saw what grabbed her just as shimmer of fire and gold. She couldn't see more then bit and pieces they moved so fast it all seemed a blur. The flashes of red and gold increased among an emerald background, as the scent of a raging fire increased. She did feel the thorns tearing at her though, ripping more away then just her hair and skin. She wanted to cry out, to run to hide, but her entire existence was filled with a burning agony that paralyzed her.
When she arrived at the City of Brass she was assigned to one of the forges, made to do the lowest work possible. Lifting and carrying, scrubbing the floors, anything and everything she was told to do. At least the doctor had been right she was just a late bloomer and all the work only served to make her tougher. The piles unknown ore and chemicals seamed to condense, searing into her body, making her arms tough and hard.
She was more than surprised when one day she was pulled away from the menial task they had set her to and chained to a forge, told only to work, not what to make or how to do it. She had been watching the others though and it didn't take long before the work was second nature she even enjoyed it; the ringing of metal on metal the ability to pound her frustration and agony out on something. For a while she lost herself to the work, her mind blank except for what was in front of her.
She wasn't happy or even content, accepting at best resigned to her fate. That changed the day she saw one of her fellow Changeling killed simply for a small imperfection in his work. How this was different from the others she didn't know but it lit a fire in her, bringing her from the stupor of work, and she began to plot her escape. It was a slow plan, watched most of the time it took months for her to shape her hammer and coat it with metal and magic strong enough to break the chains, but she did it. She didn't wait another day breaking the chains was almost a simple task, the hammer smashing them flat and shattering them like glass. Part of her wished she could help the others but all she thought about was her own freedom running as fast as she could.
She had never been out of the forges before, and the heat and light of the city blinded her, but she ran on, smashing anything that got in her way. She eventually got to one of the main doors of the city, guarded by rock elementals. The first one like an obelisk of granite moved forward to intercept her, its partner, crafted from shards of obsidian, moved in accordance. In one blow decimated the former's torso, sending its head smashing into the later, shattering it and sending it falling like pieces of splintered mirror.
She was chased, of course, but somehow she out ran them, her hammer brushing aside anything in her way. She was almost at the hedge when she felt the hands on either side of her face burning her skin. She turned and swung the hammer, smashing whatever held her, embedding it in the thing's gold and ruby torso, and ran leaving the hammer she had worked so hard on behind, the unearthly sounds of the Fae screaming echoing in her mind.
She ran for what seemed like ages, the thorns pulling at her, reminding her of the first time she had entered, reminding her of home and stroking the burning need to see it again to a new level. The ripping of the thorns was nowhere near as bad as the burning on her face and when she stumbled back out of the hedge it wasn't suppressing emergency medical services were called. It was only luck that a local freehold Chirurgeon was working the ambulance that day.
Ivy healed up quickly but scars in the shape of long fan like shapes remained. The nightmares remained as well, often waking her in fits of terror in the night. She's watched as the thing that was left in her place lived what she should have been living, and left it as she toiled in her own sorrow. How could she not, when her own mother and father couldn't recognize her? She's been with the freehold almost a year now, having finally settled with the winter court. Most of the time she just wants to be left alone, working in construction, where even the men are surprised at the young, half blind, girl's intent work. The other times she can be found in a small apartment near the Gold Coast, or her Hollow forge in the hedge.
Home and Hollow
|
- Hollow: Holly's Hollow is hidden away near the Golden Coast. It's a small workshop devoted specifically for her metalwork. It is lightly furnished, most of the table space taken by metal, tools, and metallurgy supplies.
The Hollow is a smaller location, made more for efficancy then comfort. There are a few tables, mainly covered in various tools for forging or the few metalurgy chemacals she has. A small shelf in the corner holds a small reference librairy pertaining to the science of metalurgy. In a corener there is a cot and a small water well. Next to the cot is a small plant that will grow normal oranges when watered, though these oranges vanish if they are taken outside of the Hollow.
- Home: A small apartment near the Gold Coast, mostly clear with a few pieces of durable furnature. the main other resident is Oliver, her cat.
The house is a three room flat. There is only a little bit of furnature, and most of this is from retail shops like Goodwill and Salvation Army. The living room is connected to the kitchen area, only seperated by a counter. There is no TV in the house, due to Holly not being at home enough to really spend the time or money to get one. The main decorations that are in the place are comprised of metal abstract art with a few pieces that make a slight reference to the Thorns.
Her words of others
Courts
Spring: Laugh and smile all you want, you're just trying to fool yourself into thinking you arent broken too.
Summer: A fire can only burn so long, so what will you have left when all your rage is gone?
Autumn: Good people, they know the difference between tactics and brute force. If you need something weird to know about talk to these guys
Winter: A friendly shoulder to cry on, and great listeners. If only others listened and payed as much attention...then maybe we wouldnt feel so left out
Seemings
Beasts: These people can be diabolicly feral or they can be warm and fuzzy, you just have to be careful which ones you keep as friends
Darklings: When I'm with these guys I dont feel as bad about myself, I dont know if its shadenfreude or just feeling like they know what I've been through.
Elementals: I cant peg these guys with a single tag, they are as different as the manifestations of nature they have become.
- Firehearts: Dont you F***ing touch me.
Ogres: A bit tempermental at times, but they are decent people when you havent pissed them off.
Fairest: You think that just because you are prittier than all of us it makes you royalty. Screw you A**holes.
Wizened: I look around, and I find myself wondering if I came out worse off then everyone else
Others
Mortals: God, I try so hard, and yet you guys always manage to make me cry...
Mages: Worthless F***s, you have all the power in the world, yet you choose to do nothing for others.
Werewolves: Treat them like you would a Beast Changeling. Some are fuzzy and warm, some are rabidly agressive. Yet they understand us a lot more than some of the other supernatural creatures do. They are trying to sustain the same sort of ballence with themselves that we are doing.
Promethians: What the hell?
Vampires: At least the Gentry have the balls to be open that they don't care that people are cattle to them.
Hunters: I honestly see where you are comming from, just keep that gun pointed the other way.
Words in the Smoke
"She's a sweet girl... I just wish I could do something more to help her feel better about herself. " Keelin T Brennan
"Quiet at first, but definitely a talented person at heart. I can't wait to see more of her work. " Sean OReilly
"Holly....I..." there is a soft pause. "She's a very talented. She has a heart that is so big. So caring. I like her. I will help her, I will protect her, I will be there for her." Shiny
"You are like any of us, Holly, but you wear your scars on the outside too." Gail Ellijay
"She thinks the scars and marks upon her body make her hideous... In all fact it shows an aspect of beauty that she has yet to accept. She survived the hell she was in and is becoming a stronger person, now only if she would accept that she is truly beautiful because of who she is, not hideous because of the scars of the hell she was in." - Benares
"She knows who I am. I want to know, really I do...but she won't tell me. But, I will be patient. I have to be, if I don't then I will get nowhere. But....who is David?" - Chrono
"I wish she would relax and let people get close. I know her time back there must have been tough, but that's no reason to harden herself to people reaching out. All I want is to be her friend... If she'll let me." Shelly
