Monomacy (VTM)

Monomacy is one of the thirteen auctoritas ritae observed by the Sabbat sect. In effect, it is a one-on-one duel between the holder of an office (priest, ductus, bishop, archbishop, cardinal, or priscus) and any challenger who thinks they can provide better leadership in that role. In practice, it is a tool used to keep the strong in power, and to ensure that only the most ambitious, vicious, and violent lead the Sabbat. It is only rarely practiced in the higher ranks; the holders of such offices tend to be powerful enough to dissuade any challengers, whether or not they are the best qualified for the position.
