On the WOD Wiki, the Community Portal is a page where the members may gather to discuss various issues concerning the policies and operation of the wiki. It is not a place for idle conversation or off-topic discussion that doesn't directly concern WOD Wiki.

The following types of questions do not belong in the WOD Wiki's Community Portal:

  • Newcomers' questions. Please take the time to read the introduction and help pages before posting questions.
  • Facts and canonical questions. Questions regarding specific facts of the World of Darkness should be posted on the Reference Desk.
  • Bug reports should be forwarded to one of the administrators.
  • Issues concerning specific articles should be addressed on that article's talk page.

After a period of time, inactive discussions without any long-term value will be deleted from this page. A discussion that may be of use in the future for reference purposes may be moved to a different section (like the FAQ page), or added to the Community Portal archive.

Infobox templates?

I am trying to create a infobox for all the White Wolf books, so that the pages would be a bit more standardized, but for some reason i can't seem to creat a dynamic infobox template (if syntax), i have never had any problems with this on any other wiki site (wikia, wikipeida), so what is the problem here? here is an exsampel of an infobox template http://buzzoutloud.wikia.com/index.php?title=Template:Listener_Infobox&action=edit --Szklany 14:26, 6 May 2008 (EDT)

Canonicity templates?

I was thinking of helping newcomers distinguish between what's official stuff from the books, what's been created by fans, and so forth. All it would require would be the addition of a small {{template}} to each relevant page.

What I'm thinking is one for {{canon}}, for {{fanon}}, and maybe one for {{chat}}. They'd display a message like: This section details official canon information drawn from White Wolf books. Or This section details elements created by fans. {{chat}} would be for characters and setting elements drawn from the official World of Darkness Java chat.

Thoughts? --Ian 13:18, 12 April 2006 (EDT)

I think we need two of those. maybe the {{fanon}} and {{chat}} tags... Because otherwise, we'd be tagging all of the pages here with at least one of such tags. Though I do not know how other people feel about this. --serial_experiments 15:19, 12 April 2006 (EDT)
Agreed. Stuff should be assumed canon unless otherwise stated. So, create fandom tags and such. Moogle001 19:07, 16 April 2006 (EDT)
{{fanon}} and {{chat}} have been created. Feel free to edit them if they're not quite what you're looking for. They also include any article they're added to into appropriate categories, so it'll be easy to see at a glance all the fanon or chat-related articles. --Ian 20:18, 17 April 2006 (EDT)
Should pages of specific characters inside the chats be marked with the Template:T1 tag? --Steel.stiletto 14:50, 4 June 2007 (EDT)

Marking a page for deletion

How should a page be marked for deletion? Banaticus 21:56, 1 July 2006 (EDT)

With the {{deletion}} template. --Ian 13:37, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

Chat home pages

This is going to take a lot of work, so I thought I'd get some input from the masses first.

The pages for World of Darkness: Chicago, City of the Damned: New Orleans, Hunting Ground: The Rockies and Boston Unveiled are, contrary to what one might expect, the front pages for the chat venues rather than articles about the books after which the chats are named.

So what should we do about it? Move World of Darkness: Chicago to World of Darkness: Chicago chat and fix a bajillion character pages to point to the new page? Keep it as-is, which creates a bit of confusion for new users, and put the books up at World of Darkness: Chicago (book)? Or something else? --Ian 16:33, 19 August 2006 (EDT)

Okay, just double-checked. To be fair, Hunting Ground: The Rockies points to the book, while the chat is found at Hunting Grounds: The Rockies. But it's still confusing. --Ian 16:33, 19 August 2006 (EDT)

No opinion other than I suggest we go with what's easier by changing the names of the book info... because the chats have longer histories. I don't know much about the process, but I think that would be easier. JoshO 00:39, 23 August 2006 (EDT)

Confirming e-mail address

I'm unable to confirm my e-mail address. My server refuses to accept e-mail from the wiki with the error message "Domain of sender address www@forum-white-wolf-com.local does not exist". Can somebody fix that please? --Maggu 12:30, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

Spell and character templates

I noticed that the Mage Wiki doesn't have much for template characters or for spell standardization. I'm going to work on these (possibly put a few NPC's up) but any input would be appriciated--phizzi 16:43, 12 November 2006 (EST)

Update: I just added a fanon spell template to the discussion area of the fanon spells group in Mage. Please edit/comment.

Editing Help

Hello. I'm me and you're you. There, introductions are gone. I started the Ahl-i-Batin article based off of information I found in some sourcebooks, but I need some help when it comes to including the 'EDIT' buttone at the bottom of the articles. It's my first time editing, and after reading through the Help articles, it really didn't help me. No offense. Long story short, I've got a newbie question (considering I'm one when it comes to this). How do you include the EDIT 'button' at the end of articles? After telling me, you might want to take a look at the Ahl-i-Batin article and fix it up just to make sure.

SINCE I DONT KNOW HOW TO CREATE A NEW TOPIC I'M HIGH JACKING YOURS. SORRY. I HAVE AN ARTICLE UNDER CHANGELING MAGIC IN THE CTL FAN SECTION. HOW DO I MAKE A FOLDER FOR THIS SO THAT IT DOES NOT TAKE UP THE WHOLE PAGE?? I WOULD LIKE FOR IT TO BE A SEPERATE ENTITY. THANK YOU.

Copyright Issues

The FAQ and the Copyright info is not really clear to me. I have created a discussion there, but it's fundamental enough, to be asked here too.

My Questions mainly were ...

  1. May I cite an old or new WoD-Book?
  2. Can symbols (like glyphs) or images (of characters, places, maps) be used to illustrate the articles?
  3. Where's the border between right and wrong references to books and what can be transscribed/cited?
  4. When this wiki describe every magical power in detail equal or surpassing the rulebooks does that take the entries beyond acceptance?

The purpose of this wiki is kinda unclear to me. If this is a community project and people are supposed to post stories and house rules they developed on their own, they can't reference to sufficient official information with a simple link (what makes wikis so powerfull). I simply see no end of the discussions and no goals to reach.--StalkerAT 12:28, 15 January 2007 (EST)

MET Sytems for OWoD

I see that in the OWoD pages (especially disciplines), often the MET systems and powers are ignored. Take Fortitude and Potence, for example. In the tabletop version, these disciplines have no individual effects until advanced levels (each dot gives extra things instead). In MET, however, these DO have specific powers. I think that the MET systems should be noted. PHDrillSergeant 14:16, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

If you want it, put it up. This is a wiki. It's not hard. --7Storyfall 18:51, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

Abuse

Hello, I've been here just a few days and it would seem that the same accounts are vandalising over and over. This is not Wikipedia, being nice to vandals isn't required as the distinction between wod and non-wod is obvious. Either require commit approval, captchas, content filters, publish delay or at the very least a "instant revert to known good"-button. As it is now after I've reverted spam, I ain't in the mood to write something new. This ain't the first or last wiki to suffer abuse, there are ways to remedy most of it. Spidey 01:12 15 June 2007

I agree. I think that this wiki could be really helpful. But with no spam protection, and no easy way to delete, revert, or even change some of the articles, it makes me just want to leave it all alone. Could someone at least address the issue of spam? --Steel.stiletto 13:34, 20 June 2007 (EDT)

Again, removing drug advertisments from wiki pages. Is there a way to get IPs and block their access?

The drug ads this time directed to people.msoe.edu, its possibly their server as well? These people are pathetic. --Retropolis 13:50 EDT - 01 July 2007

It's not completely easy, but just did a couple of reverts. For those that might need to and don't know how, click 'history', compare with the last 'good' version of the page, there will be a link to that version at the top, click on that. Go to 'edit'. Then copy the entire edit feild, go back to the current version, and clear and paste the good one. EvilTyger 16:49, 20 July 2007 (EDT)

Can I lock a page as read-only when it is complete?

I'm puting my cronicle up and I would hate to loose the information.

-Tete

  • Partition an administrator. But it should be noted that locking pages is against the spirit of wiki. If you really want your work to be proprietary and locked, wiki isn't the medium to post it on. --Tritium 05:43, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

Discipline Dice Pool Summary

Hello all,

I recently bought the Vampire:Requiem Storyteller's screen and need to make some improvements to it. As a community, lets put something together, perhaps in Excel format, of all disciplines in the core book, explaining the name, level, dice pool, cost, and a minor description.

I do not intend to post copyrighted material, but we should be able to create a list for public use that can be used as a quick reference for disciplines. I believe many storytellers can attest that stopping game play to look up which dice to roll can take away from the drama. A quick reference is the only way aside from 100% memorization to resolve this problem.

I have started a few things in Excel, but I'd like to see what other people can come up with. Also, if I do post it and someone says "COPYRIGHT" this or that, then all this would be in vain. So please, lets discuss.
